A qualitative study was presented by our post-doctoral fellow <strong>Francesca Brundisini<\/strong> at a webinar hosted by Diabetes Action Canada on September 15.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Research findings on diabetes treatment often lead to different approaches to managing the disease. How is this information communicated to the people who need it: i.e., practitioners and citizens? Francesca Brundisini examines how a patient-oriented research approach can lead to the dissemination of new knowledge to the general public.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In her presentation, Ms.&nbsp;Brundisini discusses the citizens\u2019 workshop project in public libraries led by our <a href=\"https:\/\/unitesoutiensrapqc.ca\/composante\/recherche-sur-les-systemes-de-sante\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Research on health and social systems, knowledge application and implementation<\/em><\/a>, and presents a strategy for disseminating and sharing knowledge.<br \/>\nThe results help us understand how citizens, science communicators and physicians take stock of the knowledge presented at citizen workshops in public libraries.<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/diabetesaction.ca\/fr\/diabetes-action-canada-research-spotlight-training-and-mentoring-tuesday-september-15th-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">See the content of the presentation here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Citizen Lectures in detail<\/h2>\n<p>The Citizen Lectures to popularize health care knowledge were offered in 25&nbsp;public libraries in the Montreal and Quebec City networks, reaching 362&nbsp;citizens. In collaboration with the chair, <strong>Dr.&nbsp;France L\u00e9gar\u00e9,<\/strong> and science writer <strong>Val\u00e9rie Borde<\/strong>, the knowledge translation experts from Unit\u00e9 de soutien SRAP du Qu\u00e9bec developed a proof of concept for popularizing and disseminating research findings to the general public.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of these activities, participants reported a good level of acceptability for the activity and better knowledge of the subject presented. A number research centres, such as CHU de Qu\u00e9bec, are now collaborating with Ms.&nbsp;Borde to support their researchers in this type of activity. With financial support from the Fonds de recherche du Qu\u00e9bec (FRQ), Ms.&nbsp;Borde created the <a href=\"https:\/\/centredeclic.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centre D\u00e9clic<\/a> to conduct similar dissemination activities for research findings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How can knowledge exchange in primary health care research benefit people with diabetes?
