The MSSS lung cancer screening demonstration project: Who is it for and why?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe three-year project will be rolled out gradually as of June 1 in designated project sites of the health and social services network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demonstration project is for people aged between 55 and 74, who smoked for at least 20 years during their lifetime, whether consecutively or not. Anyone who is eligible can participate in the screening, regardless of where they live. The project will be implemented in accordance with public health directives in effect at the time of its deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligible people will undergo low-dose computed tomography (CT scans) in one of the designated project sites. At least 3,000 participants may obtain annual CT scans, for a total of two scans within a 24- to 28-month period. The goal of the project is to assess, in the Quebec health and social services context, whether the identified parameters effectively justify lung cancer screening through CT scans. The Institut national de sant\u00e9 publique du Qu\u00e9bec (INSPQ), the Institut d\u2019excellence en sant\u00e9 et en services sociaux (INESSS) and the MSSS will be involved in the evaluation of the project. The results of the screening of the first 3,000 participants will guide the decision as to whether to continue the project and possibly expand it into a provincial program in institutions across the province.\u201d – Source MSSS<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
